I can’t believe a year has almost passed and Nationals is just around the corner. It seems like only yesterday I was crowned, and now I am getting ready to pass on the crown to my successor. To ensure you make the most of your time at Nationals, I have a few tips for you that helped me.
Analyze your schedule. Once you get your schedule, take time to look over it and make adjustments as necessary. There are lots of fun activities that will be taking place and you want to make sure you prioritize your time in between each event. I brought a highlighter and used it to note each event I was participating in and was better able to plan accordingly. This saved me a lot of time knowing how much time I had to do what I needed to do. Also, keep all of your paper work, resumes, and other files in a binder so you nothing gets lost and you can always find it when you need it.
Take TONS of pictures. I can’t stress this enough. You will be so glad you did. Take pictures at each event and with as many of the other girls as possible. Pictures can capture so many memories and will last a lifetime. Sometimes I go back to my AUS Nationals album on Facebook and it evokes so many wonderful memories, emotions, and captured what an fantastic time I had while there. One day in the future when my child(ren) asks what is was like to compete in a national pageant, I will have the photos as proof of the AUSome experience!
My final tip would be to just have fun and truly be you in every phase of competition. It may sound cliché, but it couldn’t be any truer. One of my favorite quotes is from Dr. Seuss “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” Share your talents and uniqueness with the other contestants and judges. Don’t be afraid to stand out or look different. Stand firm on your faith and beliefs. And always strive to be better than your best self.
I hope one of these tips can help you maximize your time at Nationals and make the best of your experience. It will be one you will never forget. I hope your Nationals preparations are coming along well and if you have ANY questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me on Facebook. I can’t wait meet you all on Pageant Island!
